25 Years of TAP
In 2009, AISD awarded TAP a contract to develop four new Family Resource Centers for Pearce, Dobie, Mendez, and Martin Middle Schools. Later the Pearce FRC was absorbed into the Reagan High School FRC, which is now managed by AISD. The new FRCs have taken root and have engaged hundreds of new community partners, along with thousands of dollars of in-kind support that benefits families and their youth.
All of the FRCs now provide struggling families with case management services and connection to critically needed resources. The FRCs assist families in accessing affordable housing, health insurance, a medical home, emergency health care, employment services, legal aid, financial assistance, adult education, and connection to community through local faith-based organizations, neighborhood associations, and community events. TAP’s focus since 2010 has been on the development of emerging FRCs at Mendez and Martin Middle Schools located in central East and Southeast Austin.
